Hey, as the title reads I was academically dismissed from my school (Rutgers University/Newark) during the 2016 spring semester. I didn’t reapply for Winter 2016 because I figured I should take time off from school after being dismissed. Current Working.
I was academically dismissed for having a GPA of 1.0. Crazy I know. I’m a smart kid, however during my first year of colleges I was struck with a pretty serious depression which put me in a slump for most of the semester. Thus why my gpa is so low.
I am applying AS A FRESHMAN to the University of Houston & Texas State University.
My question is, what are the chances of me being accepted due to my academic dismissal?
The application asks that I Listed all previous colleges attended however since I’m applying as a freshman, should I not list my previous academic history at Rutgers & apply with no college experience? Or should I tell them that I went to Rutgers & was dismissed & hope they have an understanding?
Any advice would be appreciated.
P.S. excuse any grammatical errors as I pretty stressed out right now.
Please met with an academic advisor at your school. They can talk it over with you. IMO, you need to start again at community college. I think you might find it difficult to be accepted. Go to CC for a year, work hard, do well, and reapply somewhere. That is the best option.
As a transfer student, you need to be in Good Academic Standing to get accepted at most 4-year schools. Consult the transfer requirements at Houston and wherever else you want to attend. Community colleges have open admission and will accept students who are not in good standing. After a semester or two at a school with open admission, you can apply to the 4 year schools you were interested in.
No, it actually requires you to do so. There is a national database so when they check they will catch you. You can not unilaterally decide to ignore your past and apply as if you never attended college. Well, I guess you can, but it won’t work.
