Does anyone know much about the University of New Orleans? I live in California, so I dont really know a lot, but Im thinking applying there because I found out they offer the Chancellor Scholarship (which includes full in-state tuition, full non-resident fee exemption, $500 book allowance, full board, $1850 credit toward on-campus housing) to anyone with above a 3.5 GPA and 27 ACT/1210 SAT. I have a 3.7 and 2130 SAT, so its looking pretty enticing. Aside from the financial aspect the school seems to be ideal for me in a lot of ways: very diverse, unpretentious, integrated into the surrounding community. I know New Orleans is still pretty torn up from the hurricane but I like community organizing/helping/solidarity/etc., so I figure living there could be interesting and provide some good opportunities.

As far as academics, I know the school has programs in most of the things Im interested in, and some of the classes seem interesting, but I have no idea how challenging it is. I know its not prestigious or known for academics, which is fine with me. I just dont want to be bored like I have been in high school and community college classes. I want to work hard. Can anyone who goes to/has gone to/has a kid whos going to/lives near/knows anything about UNO tell me about the academic rigor, or if it sounds like a good place for me?
