I've looked around on that USAFA folklore wiki website in the past. It has a lot of cool stories and legends. Pretty Sweet.

not to mention it includes 40 days for the freshman, leading to Recognition, which are the 40 hardest days of the year (other than recognition)

I'm kinda looking forward to it already. (Not that I won't try to enjoy senior year while I can!)

I am not looking forward to Recognition itself, because I know I am absolutely going to die. May have paid off to be a little more of a stealth cadet. But anyhow, civies, walking at rest, wearing your backpack on your back!!! It will be worth it. And eagle, I am fairly certain that I am still going to be one of the few cadets who still smiles during the "Dark Ages." I love snow and I love the Air Force Academy! haha

Redhead you will be fine (the stairs from heaven to hell may be waiting) but you will be fine. If you are really worried about visibilty you could dye the hair a day before recognition, then they won't know who you are (Recognize you) :) but I am sure things will be fine. Eagle has been a little negative and scary lately.

Everything I've heard is that the difficulty of 40 days depends ALOT on your squadron. For example, my squadron is very, very lazy. They don't like training us because they have to, you know, be awake for it and all. I'm sure they'll still make recognition suck, but I doubt 40 days will be that bad

Haha, most squadrons (yes, even the lazy ones) really turn things up for Recognition/40 days. (Actually, most make things harder for second semester.)

Indeed raimius. I didn't think it could get a whole lot tougher than first semester last year, I was proven wrong! Second semester was HARD, but it made recognition so worth it. Also, having the intense training made the event itself much more bearable!

Yeah, 2nd semester last year was a whole lot better (and tougher) than 1st semester. That is when my 4* squad really came together as a team.

Sounds like the relationship between first and second semester is a lot like that between first and second BCT.

What exactly is Recognition and all this talk about 40 days?

Let's just say the "4* year" comes to an end.

Recognition is the light at the end of our tunnel, so to speak.

40 Days, Recognition.

ds52262, sry if i've sounded negative. the truth is i wish it was harder.

things do pick up, but its really not that bad. recognition is not even 3 full days, and 40 days varies. i don't want ppl thinking its going to be a walk in the park like basic was (in my opinion), cause recognition is tougher physically and mentally, but it also means a lot more, as ppl who go through it will find.

and its almost all about attitude, through every year here. if u think it sucks, it will. if you enjoy it (even 4* year), then its fun.

I agree and feel the same with eagle completely.

I understand the frustration guys. Duckie wrote me about this time in her 3C year, and was a little frustrated too. Wasn't sure if she still wanted to be there, and things weren't quite what she had expected them to be. She had some friends she went through EOD school with get KIA and thought she could do more good. She toughed it out and has done pretty good. As Uncynical would say try not to let make you cynical.

3 dig year is famous for making cynics here. I think it is the combination of tougher core courses, not being a 4* but not leading a whole lot, and not having things like cars.

It is all about attitude and effort. 99% of those here can succeed if they go about it the right way. About 25% will choose not to or just make idiotic decisions...Hence the classes dropping from nearly 1300 to about 950.

Well, I personally don't feel like I have it that easy in my squadron but I kind of like it that way. We have training sessions everyday, and today's was really motivating because they were talking about Recognition and how it's going to be the hardest but most rewarding thing we've ever done and all of this is just preparation for it. We'll be in the front leaning rest and we all go through and say our favorite quote and what it means to us. It's that kind of thing that makes you feel like all the training has a purpose and you can press through it. I feel pretty motivated after our training sessions.

I just wanted to say that there are now less than 100 days until redhead and I will be strolling across the terazzo in blue jeans.

In other news, they announced next summer's cadet leadership today. C/SMSgt Kellen J. Curry will be the Group Commander for BCT next year. That's bad news for you, 2012 - Cadet Curry eats basics for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. ;) "Hey genius...!"

Yup, can't wait since he's coming back into the squadron from Group next semester. He will, indeed, eat Basics. But I will be around to dig them back up. :)
