Academy of Art University Experience

I’m majoring in Animation and they’ve accepted me. For anybody that majored in animation at this school, what was your experience?

I only know some people who went to the Academy of Art, and one guy who teaches there. Within San Francisco, the school has a bad reputation as a place that’s more interested in your money than anything else. On the other hand, I know a couple of graduates who work at Pixar, and another who worked at Pacific Data Images. The guy I know who teaches there has a degree from Harvard and teaches film-making. So while there are plenty of people with expensive degrees from the Academy of Art making coffee in Starbucks or Peet’s, at least some of the graduates are doing pretty well.

I know three students who attended Academy of Art in San Francisco. One received his B.F.A in Illustration, specializing in Concept Art and Visual Development. He’s a working artist, quite involved in the art scene. The second student is still attending and doing well (accepting commissions now and then). Both students are very talented and I would consider their experience at Academy of Art to be quite positive. The third student graduated a couple of years ago and landed a good job where he initially had an internship and was also holding workshops in his craft. He’s since moved out of state and I’ve lost track of him.
