Hey guys! i’m currently enrolled in this Academy of Finance program that my school has. and well, it’s pretty self explanatory. but i’m starting to have doubts about it since it’s a “school within a school” and for my junior year, i’ll have to take “academy english” instead of regular/honors/ap english.

what do u think upenn would think about this? i’m enrolled in all soph honors and one AP.

Hey! If the program's good I can't see how it would hurt you! I mean they like APs, but if the academy's just as good as APs and you do well, it'll be fine. I'm sure you can get your GC to explain it or something if you're worried...:)

But don't take my word for it - I'm an intl. student, so i don't really know how the US works! lol

I have to disagree with alex. When I was considering Wharton, I spoke with my regional rep about whether she thought I should take my school's AP Micro and AP Macro economics courses. She didn't hesitate to say ABSOLUTELY NOT. Wharton wants to teach you finance it's own way. Let's face it, you're not going to learn Wharton-level finance in high school. You're better off getting a more solid understandingof courses you need as a foundation for business - AP math, AP english, etc. If at all possible, try to pursue finance through extracurriculur rather than co-curricular paths.

That's my opinion. The best opinion would be that of your regional rep.

my everyday schedule consists of APUSH, honors alg2, hon chem, hon english, and hon french. this is kind of like an add-on. it's a 3 yr program. i'm gonna hve to take accounting 1 and 2 next year and also my senior yr. oh and it also provides you with the opportunity of obtaining an internship the summer b4 12th grde. so will it actually hurt me? btw i'm there's only 1 AP in 10th grde

I don't know...like I said I'm an intl. so I'm not sure how all this works, but I think that you should take eighteenforluck's advice to get you regional rep.'s opinion...they'll be able to give you a more valid opinion than most people here! :) Good luck!

yourname - We consider the best preparation for Wharton to be your traditional "major" subjects like Social Science, Language, English, Math, and Science. We do not encourage to take business courses like Accounting in high school as we feel that high school business courses are vocational and we want to teach you business principles here. Please contact your Regional Director of Admissions to discuss this.
