As many of you know, many colleges have programs that guarantee admission to medical school right out of high school (assuming that you meet various criteria such as GPA, MCAT, etc.), such as Northwestern's HPME, Brown's PLME, and Rochester's REMS. Do I have a good shot at any accelerated medical program?

My dad's an ER doctor, if that means anything. His close friend was President of the American College of Emergency Physicians and has "connections" at the University of Rochester. He could put in a word for me for REMS.

Admittedly, my weakest area by far is volunteering. How crucial is this factor? Do I need to put in some serious hours at a hospital or something?
