Accept by Wes, reject by Babson

I just found out that I was rejected by Babson today. While it is not my top school, I still find it extremely disappointing. I thought my stats were enough for me to consider Babson a safety, but apparently they weren't. This is not an auspisious start for next week, when many schools start to release their results.

Sorry about your decision with Babson, but how is it that you already have an acceptance to Wesleyan?

^ second that

Or do you mean to ask if it’s still possible to get accepted to Wesleyan if rejected by Babson? Different schools, different priorities with admission info so don’t give up. Anything is possible. Four years ago, my son was accepted to Brown, Duke and Yale and rejected by Cornell.

Wesleyan has started sending out their early-admits for RD. I received my acceptance letter a few days ago. :D

OP’s stats: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/12154102-post17.html

Judging by that post, I think it’s safe to safe Babson rejected you to protect their yield/acceptance rate, knowing you probably weren’t going to attend (a lot of people call it Tuft’s Syndrome on CC). Good luck on your other apps!

^ I agree. Plus, the results on CC never cease to surprise me. I am shocked when I see someone accepted to Harvard, rejected by UPenn. Accepted to UChicago, rejected my Georgetown, accepted to Yale, rejected by Columbia. Like sometimes it just doesn’t make sense. I feel like when someone crosses a certain threshold of “greatness” that they can guarentee the same wave of acceptances/rejections by certain level schools. Apparently not, and quoting some random admission counselor: “admissions is a card toss, I swear if you tossed the cards (apps) up again they’d never land the same way twice”. Of course, this isn’t what I want to hear when we all only have one shot at our dream school - UPenn. :(

@wmf2011- What exactly are early-admits for Regular Decision? Now I’m absolutely freaking out, haha. Do you have that distinction for a reason?

EDIT: Oops, disregard that, please- I found it elsewhere. Congratulations! Now I’ll have knots in my stomach until the 25th :P

I am waitlisted by Babson. But was rejected by Wes (ed).

Yeah I received a early write/ likely letter from Wes a few days ago. I did consider the fact that Babson may reject me to protect their yield, but shouldn’t it make more sense to waitlist me instead?

I think if I got accepted by some top 25 schools and rejected by others also in top 25, I wouldn’t be as disappointed because I know the admission process at these schools is arbitrary to say the least. But Babson is … not a top 25 schools.

I just checked my app to Babson again to see if there’s any shoddy mistake that may cause them to turn against me, but as far as I (and another friend I showed it to) could tell, there isn’t. It’s not a great essay, but definitely not the worst either. In fact, I used the first half of the essay for my Stanford essay, and I was deferred SCEA there.

Has anyone else received an acceptance for RD - and if so, when?

I got my RD acceptance today, dated March 11. I’m pretty psyched, except that the financial aid package doesn’t seem doable. :stuck_out_tongue: C’est la vie!

I got one too. What does that exactly mean? They really wanted us? It says that I am one of the first students to be notified of admission because they think I’m great for Wes etc…

Early write = you are a top priority candidate. If you didn’t get one, it doesn’t mean Wes doesn’t want you (if they do, they’ll accept you in the main RD round in a few days) but an early write means the school is trying to gain an edge over other schools you might get accepted to.
