I don’t think anyone on here can tell you with any kind of authority an answer to that, it is a combination of factors. For example, some of the schools you indicate are music schools within a ‘regular’ college, and to gain admittance you may need to get into both. For schools like that, you need to gain admittance academically, which is where your GPA, SAT and so forth come in, and from what I am led to understand, that if you don’t get into both you don’t get in, even if the music school admits you. Thus you would need to research in the case of those schools what the academic requirements are.

Secondly, while BUTI and the music festivals indicate a certain level of ability, it doesn’t necessarily indicate the exact level of playing or if it matches the level of the schools required. That is determined by the audition, which is about how well you can play the required repertoire or rather the 10 minutes or so you get. Questions that need to be asked is first of all, does the repertoire you have prepared match the requirements of the schools (that you can tell easily, take a look at their websites, they list the exact requirements). No matter how well you play a piece, if the school doesn’t accept it as repertoire for the audition, it doesn’t exist. And quite honestly, if you find you have to prepare new repertoire to meet the requirements of a school at this point, I would wonder about how possible that is…

but assuming the rep list checks out against the schools, then comes the big question, your original one. For that, my personal recommendation is to talk to your teacher if you feel they have the knowledge to be able to assess what those schools are looking for. You also may want to get an assesment from someone else locally, maybe a high level teacher or a teacher at a local college music program, or as many people recommend, if at all possible contact professors at the target schools if you can possibly do so and ask one of them for a sample lesson/assessment, that is kind of getting it from the horse’s mouth.

One promising thing could be the feedback from the BUTI program. Was the person who gave you the positive feedback a teacher on faculty there or someone BUTI brought in? If they are a teacher on faculty, then that is probably a positive sign that you have the potential (as a side note, I am skeptical about all but offered a spot at BU really means; unless BU operates where teachers bring in students, everything I have seen so far indicates that unless you do well on the audition and ‘make the cut’, teachers in reality don’t have that kind of power; BU could well be different, but I wanted to warn you about that). I think it shows positive feedback, though:)

I am sure people more familiar with those programs can tell you more about the requirements, but I would recommend finding someone knowledgeable to give you the assesment and let that guide you. I wish you well.
