Has anyone ever heard of an incoming freshman being accepted into the college of LSA with an ACT score of 26?
I’m sure it happens every year, though it’s not all that likely.
If you are a recruited athlete. Or child of a major donor.
Some kids from rural Michigan districts are accepted with those scores. They undoubtedly had excellent grades which weighs more heavily that ACT/SAT. The vast majority do not apply, they probably go to MSU, Central etc.
Many people at the University of Michigan have very high ACTs (30 and above) but I’ve been one or two this year that were around 26. I have never heard of any lower though.
@Cady98000 Do you know if they were out of state or in state?
It happens occasionally, but don’t count on being able to get in with that score.
if you’re in state it’s way more possible…OOS i would say low chances
@guitar321 I am OOS and have an unweighted GPA of 3.7 on a 4.0 scale. I am involved lots of extracurricular activities and have multiple leadership roles. I also come from a single-parent low income family.
Can’t you retake the ACT? You can still apply EA with the 26 and let the admissions office know that you are re-taking it. That would likely push you to RD but better than a rejection.
@TooOld4School I could but I’ve already retaken the ACT four times, so I am not sure if retaking it would do me much good. Currently I plan on sending two different ACT scores to show my highest sub scores. My highest are math=28 science= 29 reading=27 english=24. Is there even a remote chance I could get in if they really liked my essays?
It is unlikely with a 26 considering the current range for the university in the 2015-2016 CDS is 29-33. This year it will probably go up to 30-33 or 30-34. A 29 is 93rd percentile, 26 is 83rd percentile. I’d still apply though, essays and other factors may weigh more heavily in the adcoms opinion.
it’s definitely a reach but work hard on your essays and be open minded to other colleges
@TooOld4School how did you come up with the exact percentile? I’m curious to see where I would place on both ACT and new SAT.
Just google ACT percentile. You have got to be doing something ineffectively with the ACT especially with English. The current ACT range is 30-34 for Michigan so you will need to improve your score.
The only people with SATs that low are in the music and dance school or related to someone important. Hate to be that guy but really your time will be best spent perfecting other applicatins
Depends on the context of your school. I am from a lower-middle class suburb. A majority of students admitted to Ann Arbor have scores between 25-30. Our avg ACT is a 19 and we are in state.
