Acceptance Letter & Envelope

Honestly, I think they DO care what school you went to -- or, at least, they consider your GPA differently. To put things into perspective, the valedictorian at Bronx Science typically has a 98.9 or something. We don't weigh ANY courses, and you don't get some sort of "bonus" added for taking an AP. If I had an 80.8GP at a local high school, I find it extremely unlikely that I would have gotten into Binghamton.

Although, this year, quite a few people who would have EASILY gotten into Binghamton were rejected -- the sorts of people who were accepted to NYU Stern or CUNY Honors.

@azn1: See this blog post, here: http://www.mzakariya.com/2009/01/21/accepted-binghamton-university-class-of-2013. Please don't comment directly on the blog, because comments aren't currently functioning properly. :)

Mark-that brochure is pretty cool.

azn1- I haven't heard yet, but a couple kids at my school were rejected. The letter is one of the most encouraging rejection letters I have ever read. It basically says that they would have been admitted but were not because the increasing popularity of BU and strength of other applicants. It then says something about how strong you are academically, praises your co-curricular activities and wishes you luck in your future endeavors.

Hey guys, btw, do you see any changes on online application status?
I guess I am supposed to be able to see at least 'completed for a review' or something but it doesn't say anything about it... Do the admis office regularly update it?

Mine never said completed for review. Basically if everything in that list has a received date, then your app is considered complete.

Hi I have a very low SAT score , just wondering how u did on the SAT’s just to give me an idea what binghamton is looking for. ( i do have a high GPA though , around a 90)

Where you went to high school does make a difference. They know that a XX.XX GPA at one school doesn’t equal a YY.YY GPA at some other school.

lrivki1,

The SAT midrange for the class of 2013 (freshman) was 1200-1360.

Keep in mind that even within the same school, the academic rigor of your transcript is a key component.

Does anyone know if Binghamton has an Honors program? And if they do, when do you find out if you’ve been admitted?

[Binghamton University - Binghamton Scholars Program](<a href=“Scholars | Scholars Program | Binghamton University”>Scholars | Scholars Program | Binghamton University)

Hey guys, my application was actually submitted very late for early but I got accepted anyways so I got an email saying that I got in instead of a letter. I got the exact same thing as the OP’s acceptance letter but just through e-mail. Are there anything extra you guys got? because the acceptance letter is all I got.

What is the best way to show a college you are interested?

What was your sat score like?

Wow thats great to hear. I just applied to Bing as a transfer with a 3.0 gpa. Ive sent them letters, scheduled a visit and sent a resume. Been calling a lot to see if there is anything else I can do to strengthen my chances. Any tips for me possibly? I’d appreciate any input especially from someone who currently attends there.

I have the same gpa as you and my sat is alright. I’m just wondering, do they put on a lot of emphasis on the essays because I spent a lot of time on it.

I found the envelope hilarious because it made me wonder what the rejection/deferral envelopes looked like.

“You’re NOT the 1 we want!”
“You’re 1 of the 1s we want, but didn’t quite make the cut!”

He only got in because he applied to the school of engineering and applied science. Binghamton’s school of engineering and applied science is mediocre at best. If you want to go to a SUNY and study engineering or applied science, you want to go to Stony Brook which has higher ranked programs.
