I heard kids saying that they are getting acceptance letters from college. Are they from ED’s but why is that so early? If not what are those?
Rolling admissions, possibly. Possibly some top athlete recruits
Top athlete recruits? Don’t they either just get a likely letter if D1 or D2 or apply early decision when D3?
People mistaken misrepresent their offers all the time
My D has already been accepted to two rolling decision schools.
So most likely it is about rolling admission, right?
Yes. It is most likely from a rolling admissions application. Many of those have turn-around times of only a day or so.
My kids got some rolling decisions very early and it was great – relieved a lot of stress.
Many colleges, with less stringent application requirements, even offer on-the-spot admissions. People having several “accepts” in the back pocket right now isn’t unusual. Now as far as the more selective colleges, their timelines for notification are pretty straightfwd: EA/ED is mid December. RD notification is end of March.
My son got an early than ED decision from a school that only has ED. They inivited some students (possibly NMFs) to apply by a certain date, and they would let you know within 3 weeks of getting fist quarter grades from your high school. I don’t remember exactly when he heard, but it was before Thanksgiving.
They are generally non-selective schools but there are exceptions e.g. Tulane.
In Texas and I’m sure in some other states there are Automatic Acceptance schools. In Texas I know of UT-Austin and Texas A&M. Again, I’m sure there are others. But Tulane has been notifying students of Acceptance since Oct 28th. My son just got his letter in the mail today from them.
