Wondering is anybody know the breakdown of last year’s ED acceptance rate between ED1 and ED2. Is ED2’s rate significantly lower? Would also like to know if EA has any advantage over Regular.
Hi @alandvic , I think you may be able to find what you are looking for on Northeastern’s Common Data Set for last year. It will tell you very detailed information about lots of things. You can look at them for the past few years to get an even bigger picture of admissions details.
Please share what you find!
Not sure about NU but for Tulane University, they specifically told us that their EA acceptance rate is higher than RD and they encouraged all of us at the info session to apply EA if the student didn’t need 1st semester senior year to strengthen their application, e.g., show improving grades/higher GPA.
Northeastern’s common data set does not provide details of admissions broken out by EDI/II, EA and RD. There is a combined ED number however (for class of 2024): https://provost.northeastern.edu/uds/facts/common-data-set/
Remember the ED round typically sees a relatively high proportion of recruited athletes, and legacy students. At schools that participate in programs like Posse and Questbridge (not applicable to NEU) those students go through the ED round as well.
I encourage you to a do an admissions session and ask your question about acceptance rates there. If virtual, there is typically an option to ask questions anonymously. Good luck.
IIRC Hamilton college had a breakdown of ED1 and ED2 on their website last year. They was a decent drop, but it was still higher than RD. My guess is that is typical, for the reason @Mwfan1921 mentions. The first round will have the bulk of athletes and others like legacy and donor kids who aren’t really in the same pool.
