Hi im applying for univeristy of michigan (school of engineering:biomedical engineering)
and i was wondering if they have acceptance rate for just biomedical engineering
anyone know???

Undergraduate is about 54%. ([Michigan Engineering | Student Profile](http://www.engin.umich.edu/about/studentprofile.html))

They don’t split it down in between majors, because often students will change majors as they learn more about coursework.

Graduation Rate After 6 Years 80%

Wow, the graduation rate is a lot lower than I thought. o_O

^I think a log of that is because people switch into other schools. Some go to Ross, some go to LSA.

Oh, I didn’t know they still included you in the stats if you transferred.

actually 80% 6 year graduation rate is extremely high for an engineering school.

"Admission to the College of Engineering is based on the strength of an applicant’s academic preparation to pursue an engineering degree. The admissions requirements are designed to assure that each student that is accepted has the intellectual capacity combined with the necessary interest and motivation to be successful.

The application review focuses on:

* The strength of an applicant’s college preparatory background, including the degree of difficulty of courses selected (with special emphasis on mathematics and science)
- The record of academic achievement
- Special or unique accomplishments
- ACT with writing or SAT scores
- TOEFL, MELAB, or IELTS results (for international students)

Decisions are made on an individual basis. No special class rank, grade point average, test score or other qualification by itself will assure admission."

^^ Here’s their admissions criteria incase you hadn’t seen it yet. In addition to this, remember you’re required to have taken 4 years of math, science and English (which I’m sure you have). It seems to me as if the CoE is really interested in your background in math, science, and the choice of your major more than EC’s and essays. They want to make sure you’ll be able to succeed.

Your major choice has no impact on admissions.

^ Right. What I mean was that they’re interested in seeing how much you’re interested in your major, and what you’ve done in high school to show that.

Or if you haven’t declared a major, they’re interested in seeing how much you’re interested in engineering in general, and what you’ve done in high school to show that.

At least that’s what I’m getting from their site.

Not really. They’re interested in seeing if you have a strong background in math or science, but that’s about it. It’s totally irrelevant if the candidate has ever taken “engineering” classes in high school, since those have nothing to do with college engineering classes.

The 80% figure is actually shockingly high. That type of number probably puts Michigan engineering at the very top of the country. I’m curious how they compute that.

^Yes I agree but I think if you’ve done other things that fit in “* Special or unique accomplishments” like clubs, competitions, awards related to engineering in general or your major, it will show that you have “the necessary interest and motivation to be successful” and will help you get accepted.
