Does anyone have an idea of what the freshman engineering retention rate is at Michigan. What percentage of students don't make it to the beginning of their sophomore year? Any help or insight would be appreciated.

I spoke with a member of the engineering hierarchy at UM and was given the following stats:
First year retention: 92%
Four year graduation rate: 77%

I’d be curious to see the percentage of kids who end up dropping premed.

wow first year retention is 92%? that is much higher than I thought it would be

“I’d be curious to see the percentage of kids who end up dropping premed.”

Does UMich even ask freshmen how many plan on being pre-med? I don’t think they want those numbers because then someone might ask for them.

The person I spoke to on the phone happened to mention Biomedical engineering and some stats. In order to pursue a BS in that major you must have a 3.2 GPA after your freshman year. I think she also said (I am not specifically interested in this major) that 33% of the Biomedical Engineering grads go on to medical school. Sorry I couldn’t be more clear on that major for those interested I’m sure you could write or call.
