Hi, incoming freshman at BC here.
Just wondering, as the incoming freshman class is quite a bit larger than admissions anticipated, is it expected that the acceptance rate at BC will go down? I feel that to protect their yield and class size, they will drop their acceptance rate, either subtly or substantially.
Thoughts?
If they are significantly over enrolled this year the target size of next year’s call will be reduced, meaning a lower acceptance rate. Northeastern and BU are also over enrolled.
@TomSrOfBoston how much would they lower the acceptance rate by? Like would it drop significantly?
@TomSrOfBoston Would it be a significant decrease in the acceptance rate?
It will depend on how many applications they get for that cycle.
And how over enrolled they are.
BC can also reduce transfers-in. For example, a few years ago, CSOM was over-enrolled by a higher-than-expected Frosh yield, so BC accepted no transfers into CSOM that year.
Yes, the transfer class was the smallest in 20+ years, but realistically, that really doesn’t help for numbers the much, so the real cuts would be in the next freshman class. With that in mind, it would seem that the acceptance rate would drop. Also just for a note, the waitlist was virtually untouched for the class of '21 which directly correlates to the over enrolled class.
