Just curious, do any current Pomona students know what the regular decision acceptance rate is for the class of 2011? Also, do you know how many apps were submitted?

380 get in out of 5,900 who applied this year. That would make the acceptance rate a dismal 6.5%! I got waitlisted.

In past years the admissions rate has been like 19%, so I'm very surprised! Where does that put Pomona on the scale this year in terms of competitiveness?

Pomona accepts approximetely 880 students for 380 spots in the freshman class. That puts the acceptance rate just under 15%, which represents the increase in applications this year but doesn't put it in the "ridiculous" category of 6.5%.

Exactly: Yield is not 100% at Pomona, or any college for that matter.

Stats are published here http://www.tsl.pomona.edu/index.php?article=2412http://www.tsl.pomona.edu/index.php?article=2412.

15.8% Acceptance rate, down from 19%, lowest of any LAC, would be ranked #8 in Top National Universities in 2007 USNWR ranking.

25% valedictorians
90% in top 10% of class
Average SAT 740M, 750R, 740CR

Caveat: These numbers are for accepted students, not enrolled students.
Yield looks to be about 42% (percent of accepted students who enroll) assuming class size of 375.

and most people are accepted through early decision I and II, so I think the acceptance rate for regular would be a bit lower.

FYI, most people are not accepted through ED 1 and ED 2. Unlike many comparable institutions, Pomona makes it a policy to admit at most one-third of each incoming class through ED 1 and 2 combined. The number of applicants accepted through Regular Decision is by far greater than those accepted through ED.

However, aznbluelilgrl makes a good point that after factoring out ED, the admit rate for Regular Decision is lower than the overall 15.8%.

The new acceptance rate makes me scared for next year, I must be honest. Even though i have nearly a 4.0, solid EC's and everything and am a recruited, the standardized test score (ACT) average and admission rate is stressing me out. Any words of advice?

Make it show through in your essays that Pomona is not only the perfect place for you, but that you'll be a great contribution for the school. Because of the sheer number of people that apply, they can go through and choose those who they know will perpetuate the college as a great place to be. (So much of what make Pomona amazing is the students, faculty and administration. It can't be quantified or statisticized*, but the people here are what make it great)
