<p>I've just seen that UT is a Public Ivy. But it's admission rate is shockingly high, top 10% is eligible to attend. Why is it so high?</p>

<p>It’s Texas law that any public HS student in Texas who finishes in the top 10% of his/her class is granted admittance. So, the admittance rate is 100% for that population. I was told the acceptance rate was about 50% for OOS. Don’t know what it is for in-state, non top 10%ers.</p>

<p>The acceptance rate for OOS and non-top 10% is MUCH lower than 50%.</p>
