Hi!!I am Ahmed Sabeeh from Pakistan.I will be applying next year to the Us to some of the best engineering colleges e.g UC berkeley,Cornell,Ut Austin,Georgia Tech,UIUC etc.I do know that the financial aid available to international applicants is very low to negligible. However,If you apply as an international applicant and DO NOT APPLY FOR AID,how much are the admission chances increased. For example if a college has an acceptance rate of 10 percent for international applicants, how much will it be for international applicants NOT APPLYING FOR AID.I would be much more clearer if you answer my final question.Thank you.
It depends on the school, and it varies year to year.
Some public universities (such as Berkeley) are currently facing strong criticism for admitting foreign/out-of-state full pay students at the expense of their own state residents who pay less, and so the acceptance rate may also vary depending on the political climate at each school.
In general, qualified full pay international students DO have an advantage in admissions, even at the highly selective schools you’ve chosen. But it’s very hard to quantify just how much of an advantage. These are still schools considered to be hard-to-get-into, even if you have the money.
@katliamom is right that prediction is dodgy at best. You might also consider the current anti-Muslim, anti-immigrant tone, which only adds uncertainty.
