I might be being too lazy to look it up, but what are average SAT scores for those accepted at Duke and what are Duke's focus on ECs and community service

also, unlike the ivies, Duke is both a top academic/athletic college, so does playing a sport in highschool at a high level help in the admissions process-- i mean if you're good enough to play basketball at harvard but not at Duke, but have good grades, does your baasketball experience give you "athletic status" during admissions?

Not really. I guess Duke gets a lesser number of applicants that have very low SAT scores. Places like Harvard, Princeton and Stanford seem to attract a lot of people who probably know they won't get in but apply just for the heck of it. These schools even get about 2 or 3 thousand more applicants than Duke does, so that could also skew the results.

All in all, SATs are not the only indicators of a person's merit and that can probably be said for colleges as well.

Yes Lakshya is wrong...these are the ranges for accepted students as SBA said. Duke probably does pick students with higher test scores. Students who aren't quite interesting enough (ECs, awards, etc) to make it to the HYPS level but who have the SATs and grades "end up" at places like Duke, etc. Duke students are not dumber! They just didn't have the other stuff that HYPS seem to be looking for.

Coola that may be true but that has nothing to do with these statistics...these SAT ranges are not for people who chose Duke...these are for all people accepted

Oh, I see. That makes sense.. however, Stanford may simply have stats of people who enroll in the school then.. I was about to tell millions of people that Blue Devils are better test-takers than Cardinals.

Wouldn't be surprised if stats were similar for people who ultimately choose Duke though.. even with people at the top end choosing HYPSM over Duke.. you have a lot of people at the top end choosing Duke and a lot of people on the lower end choosing other schools.
