Huge congratulations! That is fantastic news!
I thought all USC was 3/24? But I’m having trouble keeping up!

It’s true USC announced it will be this Friday, so I assume grad school decisions worked differently.

I am so looking forward to Friday! To the end of March! To whatever day marks the end of this intense process! I know April will be difficult for many of us, too, but I’m going to make a cake when all the decisions are in, just to mark the end of this phase. :birthday:

Cake sounds heavenly! lol. I love watching as these acceptances come in! Continued Good Luck to all!

My son has been accepted to every college to which he applied, in some cases with unexpectedly high merit awards. He is a fairly strong student and has been playing cello for many years. But his real passion is music production, much of which is self-taught. He has not taken any music theory yet. He got into:

Cal Arts - Music Technology
University of Oregon - Music Technology
Loyola Marymount - Recording Arts
University of the Pacific - Music Industry

Schools that do not admit by major but have strong programs in his desired field:

California Lutheran University
Occidental College
American University

He’s narrowed it down to Cal Lutheran, Occidental, and LMU–he absolutely wants to be in the L.A. area and prefers a liberal arts school–and will attend admitted student events next week. All are financially feasible for us. Thus far his first choice is Cal Lutheran because he loved the campus when we visited last summer and their program focuses on exactly what he’s looking for, i.e. it’s a mix of traditional music classes and sound engineering classes. I am not very knowledgeable about his desired major, so if anyone has any specific insights into these programs, I’d love to hear them!

Well done!

Thank you!!!

Thank you!!

Occidental doesn’t have a full program, just a “concentration” in Music Production. I suggest your son drill down into the details at Cal Lutheran and Loyola Marymount to see the requirements for the major and then read the course descriptions. Music Production is a nebulous title. Maybe he wants to compose and score or maybe he wants to be a recording engineer. He will know which program better suits his interests and goals if he better understands what each school is offering. He has already knocked two good programs off his list based on lack of proximity to L.A.
(University of Oregon and Cal Arts). UO is a Bachelor of Science program that includes some marketable skills he might not get at Cal Lutheran or Loyola. Cal Arts probably has better industry connections than his current top three.
