Seems like all acceptances would be out by 4/1? Pending is still MSM, NEC, Juilliard, some Curtis…others?
Soon you all can relax from portal and email checking. And transition to celebrating and number crunching. The end is in sight!

Is anyone else still waiting on Eastman or Boston Conservatory? My son auditioned for piano in late February. I assume they’ll be out by April 1, but I was wondering if notices had already started going out for piano.

This has been the longest March ever. We’re trying to patiently wait for MSM, CIM and Juilliard hopefully all three on Friday :blush:

We got Eastman results for grad vocal performance last week but I know undergrad voice hadn’t gone our yet last I heard.

I know he’s been waiting to find out about a roommate, and he’ll know soon. What exciting times it will be! And as they start choosing where to go, that is how the waitlists start to move, for those of you waiting at all these schools. :slight_smile:

My kid usually asks a prof, AO, or other students what his typical day would be like.

ETA: I don’t know if you have this. I’d ask how often the ensembles are recast. If it’s a situation where a student can get a space in an ensemble and then stay there for several years, it could be harder for new students. At many schools, they deal with this by recasting on some regular basis.

These are such good questions. I’m saving this for sure.

Other things our child may or may not do, but I might suggest:

  • Print out the curriculum for your program and lay it next to the others. Maybe I’m just old, but I’d like to see them all next to each other.
  • Other courses, too—I think almost every school has core course requirements.
  • Look at their instagram accounts. You can get a distinct feel for each school. It’s remarkable how differently they present themselves.
  • Look at the bios of professors, not just the one who will directly be his teacher, although of course that would be the key one.
  • Listen to recordings of their work, if they are performers.
  • Listen to the school’s ensemble performances and senior recitals on youtube.
  • CU Denver has a podcast about the music program, hosted by the guitar teacher. See if any of his schools have a similar thing that comes out of the music department.

A couple important things to keep in mind regarding waitlists:

  1. Being put on the waitlist is not a “No” – obvious, but a non-trivial difference. They liked your daughter otherwise they would’ve just rejected her.
  2. Waitlisted students are NOT ranked by skill, grades, or who did the best audition. In fact, they aren’t necessarily ranked at all. The primary determinant on who gets an offer from the waitlist is how is likely they’d accept. Remember that the waitlist is their buffer to ensure that they fill all possible spots. They don’t want empty seats in their school because that would mean lost tuition $$$.

THEREFORE, if Frost is your daughter’s priority and she’d accept if offered, make sure she:
a) tells Frost that!! Schools don’t want to “waste” offers on anyone who won’t accept them.
b) shares any new information with them that may be helpful. Things like festivals, awards, solos, etc. Anything that could make her an even better candidate can’t hurt.

@BeverlyWest – this is a totally reasonable approach: expect the worst yet hope for the best.

At the same time, if your son is waitlisted at a school that he very much wants to attend, it’s important that he keeps in contact with the school, makes it clear that he’d accept an offer if given, and shares any updates with them that will make him an even better candidate. See my earlier reply to @JunieB3 with a little more info.
