We received an acceptance letter today for my D instruments however based on her audition it stated she was not accepted into the performance program however they accepted her into the music ed program. D only applied to be a performance major. She has no interest in being a teacher at this time. She would still be in the studio but as a different major. We are not sure what this means. Did she potential in my D playing abilities but not enough to accept her into the performance program but still wants her to still be in the studio? I suggested D call professor and get more information but she feels rejected and confused.

She should call. Music Ed is a different major, not as demanding performance-wise, and with a lot of academic requirements. It could be an error, or it could be that the teacher did not, as you say, think she was up to the level of the performance program.

This happened to my D at one school - turned out to be a simple paperwork mixup and easily remedied.

Yes, the more I think about it the odder it would seem to simply turf her to Music Ed without checking first, since the requirements are so different.
