Acceptance

My daughter was accepted to UR…Any advice to be passed on as she gets ready to attend?

Congrats to your daughter!

Does she have an area of interest or major she’s thinking of? Don’t worry if she doesn’t. At UR, you don’t declare your major until sophomore year anyways.

I’m a senior at UR and am happy to answer any questions you may have!

@guineagirl96- is U of R hard? Would a kid that got mostly A’s, a few B’s at a good high school, but not a lot of AP’s, do well there?

It’s challenging, especially if you’re not used to rigorous classes or aren’t great at time management. Some majors/schedules are harder than others (I’m a STEM double major with two performing arts minors, which is pretty challenging). You can do well with that HS background. I got mainly B’s with some A’s in high school taking basically all honors with a few AP’s (I only took 4 total, Calc BC and APUSH junior year, US Gov and Music Theory senior year), and my GPA at UR is >3.5.

@guineagirl96 , thank you so much. That’s good insight.

Congrats to your D! My advice for her is for her to utilize all of the resources and support that UR provides. I’ve had an amazing experience here thusfar and going home for break was one of the hardest things to do!! All of my classes and professors have been fabulous, I love my ECs on campus, and the whole community is very welcoming.

@EVCAM6275 - Congratulations! Our D and we took advantage of UR’s Roadmap to Success program. It’s basically a new student orientation program for Freshman students and a separate, concurrent program for parents in a smaller group setting before the general new student orientation. The Roadmap program allows students to move into dorms earlier when the campus is less crowded and things are less hectic. If you complete the Roadmap orientation, as parents you don’t need to stay for the general new student orientation. Read more here https://roadmap.richmond.edu/.
