I usually lurk on the UR page but thought I’d search and see who else is talking about UR and I found your post. First, I have no inside knowledge on the admissions process. My daughter is a sophomore at UR so I have her experience plus the insight I have gained from a few who post on the UR page.

I would think UR is a reach for your daughter but that doesn’t mean it’s not possible. While grades and scores are very important in the process, they are not the only factors. I think the essay is very important and I tell prospective students to look at it as their first big job interview. She really needs to tell a story that sets her apart from the crowd and makes the UR admissions folks want her on campus. Rigorous courses are important as is the competitiveness of the school. I think they also want to see some dedication to something outside of school.

UR is a great school and great people. While it may be a reach for your daughter, it is certainly worth sending in an application. What’s the worst that could happen?

Good luck! Let us know what she does! You might also try posting a question in the UR section as you will get some more responses.
