It’s a class of 70 for BoCo
My daughter is in the class of 2019 - there are not 70 kids in the class.
There is a lot of competition auditioning for shows - but there are also tons of performance opportunities. My daughter was in 2 student productions this year as a freshman. Many of her friends were in productions as well. They do break the kids into cores - I believe my daughter has 13 kids in her core. Some of her classes are quite small (the 13) or even less. There is no class with even close to 60 kids in it. The training these kids get is amazing. They are trained in 3 types of dance, piano, ear training, sight reading, conducting, movement, voice, acting. Their course load as a freshman is 19.5 credits.
The did change how showcase was done this year. Frankly - when they started showcases years ago, it was a unique thing and got a lot of attention. Now EVERYBODY does a showcase, and very seldom can the big decision makers get to all of these showcases. This year, they have the digital showcase (which I believe the students can use for audition portfolios later) and agents can request to see more of students on a specific day in NYC.
Housing…yes, after freshman year you need to find an apartment. This was a bit overwhelming if you do not understand how rentals in big cities work. I was able to secure an amazing apartment for my daughter, 500 feet from school - without a broker (or broker fee). It’s in a building with a concierge, many nice amenities and the cost is $3500 per month (divided between the 3 kids - none sharing a room - the dorms there were 4 girls to a room). This isn’t much more expensive than the dorms, and when you consider what the meal plan runs…plus we will save quite a bit of money not using a meal plan.
These professors at BoCO know these kids - all of them. The training is top notch. My recommendation is to spend a day on campus and judge for yourself.
Yes, with housing BoCo costs $60K+ per year…the costs are spelled out on their website.
@mommabears26 could you send me the info on the apartment you found. Sounds great! Thx
@rockinmomab My D is a Contemporary Theater major at Boco, class of 2019. She and an orchestra major rented an apartment for next year near campus through Delphi Properties. The Boylston Street apartments are basically right next to campus. They are paying $2025 for a 1 bedroom split, which is basically two bedrooms, but no living room (a small foyer for an eating table and perhaps an overstuffed chair. They could lower rent by adding in one extra to share one of the rooms, but they both want a room with a door they can close (the dorm rooms are typically 3, 4, 5 people in a room at a time, so some personal space is something they both wanted). You can rent through Delphi without having to pay extra realtor fees, which are common when students need help finding apartments. Hope that helps!
I’ll also add there is very limited housing for returning students. It’s quite competitive to get in (it’s a lottery system). My Ds roomate applied and is on the waitlist.
Thanks for the info. My son goes to Berklee and we won’t know until the end of next week if he has housing
