Acceptances at RPI

There was a lot of press around the fact that the number of applications at RPI went from 5,000 per year to 10,000 or 11,000 this year. Has anyone seen any facts on the number that the school accepted / wait listed? Have any stats been released on the avg SAT / GPA of the accepted students this year vs. past years?

I believe it is too early for them to have released any stats for this year.

We were at the Admitted Students event at RPI today and at least one of the speakers mentioned that the average SAT score increased 40 points this year. (Class of 2010's average was about 1320 Critical Reading/Math so I believe Class of 2011's average would be around 1360). They did not mention GPA, class rank or other data.

I talked with an RPI admissions rep down at the FIRST Robotics competition in Atlanta over the weekend. He thought some of the increase in applications was attributable to the "New Ivies" article. I asked him if they were anticipating a lower yield (percentage of admitted students who actually accept) and therefore increased the number of students they admitted. He said "not really" which would indicate a lower acceptance rate.

At the tour on Saturday, we were told that they expect Barton will be all triples in the fall, so it sounded like they expected an increase in enrollment. How was the tour Dad'o'2? Hope the weather wasn't too much of a shock for your family.
