Acceptances: Celebrate, discuss, support here

Not really an acceptance, but WashDad Jr received a merit scholarship letter from University of Portland yesterday. This is a Good Thing.

UPs color is purple...

Fredmar, out of curiosity: are you from MI? I know many kids who have gotten into U of M, but no merit award notifications. The joke around here is they are nonexistent!

Kelsmom,

Yes, we are from Michigan. I have heard of several types of awards being given already. The Regent's Merit Award is the most often heard of, just $1500 non renewable. Then I know of several who got Scholar Recognition Award for full tuition. I haven't heard of any of the big ones yet, though, the LSA or the Shipman/Bentley scholarships.

Accepted to umich-ann arbor with $60,000 merit scholarship (OOS)!!

D got accepted into BC Honors Program--waiting to hear if she will be invited to interview for the Pres Scholarship. Got an EA from Fordham with a Deans Scholarship which can go up in March with the second round of acceptances. Also, got into PSU-UP--waiting til Feb to hear if she gets into the Schreyers Honors College. Also, found out that she got into Binghamton. Now a few more to go. Can't wait til it's all over.

Libsmom--best of luck to your family.

Congrats to everyone else on their acceptances.

Have a wonderful holiday everyone!!

Congratulations to all these fantastic kids!

NJres, all that worry paid off? Yippppeeee!

Newparent, nomadmom, bhappy--so many Harvard acceptances? What is CC? The new Harvard adcom hangout? LOL.

Wowza for ZZZ on Stanford letters at his house!

ChaChing!!! Fred, janes, dulce and WashDad rollin' in the big time now... congrats!

Ohio--going to watch a few college golf tournaments in Ohio? Congrats to you and S!

Not exactly the place to post - but my S just got accepted to Georgetown Law. We are so excited and happy. I can hardly talk!!! What a Christmas present.

Hayden, this is as good a place as any! CONGRATULATIONS!

AMAZING acceptance hayden!

Thanks, NEmom and Cheers! All of this followed some heated "discussions" when he was selecting which undergrad to attend. He refused to consider some higher ranked schools that accepted him, and insisted on his first choice school, since he decided it was a better fit. We let him go to his choice, with our blessing (okay, I'll admit reluctantly). He loved it and he did well.

The lesson is obvious. I'm so proud of him. Not for getting into Gtown Law - I'm proud that he hasn't once said, all day, "I told you so". :)

oh Hayden,

You are right, what a great christmas present. I am sure that more good presents are coming.

Congrats to your son on Gtown Law.

DS just got EA acceptance and scholarship from Goucher. All the rest are RD, so the long wait awaits us, but nice to have 2 in hand.

bethievt: Congratulations to your son. My daughter and I visited Goucher early last spring and, while she didn't end up applying there, I thought that it was a really good school---great location, strong emphasis on studying abroad, small student population, and great merit aid potential. We're also waiting on several RD decisions, but it is nice to have a couple acceptances to tide you over.:)

Bethievt, Congrats to your S -- clearly he did a good job on those *&^%$ essays! :) Did he get out all the apps he planned?

Two apps still to go (out of 10), not due until Jan 15. I thought he wouldn't get them all done, but now I think he will. It was a well-chosen list and we all love having some choice already. Thanks for all the support!

I will join you in heaving a big sigh of relief! :)

Johns Hopkins!

I'd like to use this opportunity to thank my parents (especially my mom) for her guidance and support in the last few years. I hadn't told her about this until she arrived home safely from work that day (so as to not give her a heart attack in the middle of the 6 o'clock traffic..hehe);) Anyway, thanks mom and dad!

Oh yeah, by the way, we are from Vancouver CANADA!

Jimmy

Huge congratulations to you (and your parents)!! You must be so excited!

Jimmy-
Congrats! And that tribute to your folks is heartwarming. You have mede them quite proud for many reasons, I am sure. Your post warmed my heart (as I just said! I guess I need my morning cup of coffee). You are a good kid. Again, congrats!
