It doesn't seem like a lot of CC people are interested in Providence. I called the other day and they said the decisions are mailed out this Thursday (3/16). First RD college I will be hearing from...

haha i love your username.. yay rent. i got into PC EA and into the honors program and an amazing scholarship.. haven't decided if i will attend yet, though. good luck!

dont go there meg. its in a terrible neighborhood. i know its a great school but seriously, my best friend goes there and she's afraid to leave campus... and im from new haven ct. which is a big city. so yeah.

Just got an acceptance letter thru email. My first acceptance so kinda excited!!

rebecca, you are really scaring me.

sorry to scare you guys but i thinks its unfair that the school never tells students its safety issues. people have walked onto campus through the front gates, they have dorms that have to be opened with a key card. my male friend got mugged not too far from campus and my female friends refuse to leave. the school itself it fine but the neighborhood is scary.

however - what were your stats, those that got accepted? another friend of mine got rejected and we were trying to figure out why. maybe thats why im bitter about the location.

Providence itself has a crime problem, mostly with theft. (Rhode Island was once dubbed "The Car Theft Capitol of the US," and it has been long known for its New England mafia base.) That said, Providence College is not located in a particularly bad area. The crime at PC is probably similar to what it is at Brown, which is located across town and in a much more urban setting.

Students in any urban environment should not walk alone late at night. Women in particular should take precautions because of their greater vulnerability to sexual crimes.

Providence College probably has LOWER crime statistics than most other schools located in cities. The Philadelphia schools of Temple, Drexel, and University of Pennsylvania have much higher crimes stats, yet students still attend and love those schools. If you want something very safe, I suggest going to a more isolated school in New England.

Choose the school you love. With any choice, you'll have to take the bad with the good.

I am intel. so I might have been judged differently than your fren.

Stats:

SAT1: 700M 650 V 610W
SAT2: 750M IC 730 Bio
Rank: Top 10%
ECs: Pretty good
Hook: Nothing as such

I called and they said they were only mailing out acceptances and not sending e-mails? Is it different for intels since it would take longer for them to receive a piece of mail? Anyone else get emailed who lives in the US?

I haven't been emailed and I live on Long Island. Providence is my safety and I haven't heard anything from them yet, so I wouldn't worry too much bubblewrap.

I was also accepted into PC for 2010. All I received in the envelope was a letter, a reply form, and a booklet. Would I have received any scholarship information with this or will it come later when my financial information arrives?

waiting - what are your stats?

SAT - 2010
GPA - 3.85
Rank - 14/99
Small Cath. School in Western MA
Plenty of Extra Curricular (class prez, speech, sports)
Great employer recommendation, teacher ones very good, too
anything else that would help?

just curious. do you plan on attending?

still waiting for a few others (tufts, HC, and GW).....it's looking good right now but we'll have to see........do you know anything about my scholarship question?

I got the same as you today Waiting. Not positive, but I hear that scholarship stuff comes seperately. I am hoping this is true, since there wasn't anything regarding scholarships in my envelope. :(

Hey, I got accepted under early action this past fall and I received my scholarship information a few weeks following the acceptance letter. I'm sure you have nothing to worry about, they'll probably send out all the scholarships once all the acceptances/rejections have been received. Good Luck :)

spoke to a very helpful girl in the admissions office and she informed me that scholarship notification will be sent out on friday

thanks waiting

Some of you guys are making me nervous. This is one of the schools that I've been thinking about (as I just got accepted recently), and if it's an unsafe area, I could be leaning towards some other schools. Are there actually any statistics to certain crime rates in the city of Providence rather than generalizations based on information from a few people simply saying that it is unsafe?

I have heard from several people that the campus is located near one of the poorer areas of Providence. I am too far away to actually visit myself, so any more information on this is appreciated. This could sway me towards or away (if the rumors are untrue) from other schools on the same level of Providence.
