Acceptances?

I got in, too! The small envelope made me extremely nervous, I was completely freaking out that it was going to be a rejection letter and I wasn't going to be able to handle it...

New is in my top three of the four colleges I applied to. :p

I just found out I got in too!!! I'm so happy!

I found out today! NCF has sent me a lot of mail in the past few weeks and I kept thinking that they would be about the decision since they came in a myriad of big and small envelopes - only to be disappointed. That is, until today! :)

My acceptance letter also came in a small envelope. I thought that it would some more information or another letter from a professor but then I read "Congratulations" and I knew that I finally opened the letter that I was awaiting from NCF.

Ah...joy to the world!

I have a cool story - I was visiting New on 1/23, and at the very end of the information session before the campus tour (my mom and I were the only ones there that day), my region's admissions representative interrupted and announced, "We just finished reading your file today. You're in!" I felt very special to be getting a verbal acceptance! Then the letter came about a week later and it was really anticlimactic. However, I'm still glad I had that unique experience! They sent me a bumper sticker today. I find NCF's admissions to be very warm and personal.

New College has rolling admissions, I'm guessing?
I'm just wondering for future references.

They just got my ACT scores Jan 31st.... even though the rest of my app was done Dec. 1st. :( Does anyone know if decisions are rolling, or will I have to wait until some exact date?

Decisions are indeed rolling, so you can expect a reply any time now! For the record, I completed all aspects of my application by December 29 (they had received test scores, transcripts, and my rec before that date) and I heard back on January 29. In Minnesota. So they turn them over pretty quickly, I'd say.

They got my transcripts last week and I got an acceptance today. It was a surprisingly quick turnaround--especially because I was expecting a wait until April.

Woo hoo I got in!! Now I just have to check out the finances. It's kind of funny that I've really begun to love NCF after I deemed it a so-so safety. I think it's now my second choice. Hopefully I can afford it. :)

By the way, sorry if this is a stupid question, but is it easier to get in instate or out-of-state?

sarmango- In certain cases, it may be easier to get in instate. For example, when a student is from Florida and in the top five percent of their class in Florida, most schools in the state system will accept them, provided all else is equal. However, Florida is in dire straits financially and since most Florida students qualify for Florida Bright Futures, the state universities need the revenue provided by students NOT on Bright Futures. Since NCF is the top school in the state (arguably...many would say UF), most of their applicants not on Bright Futures would be OOS. Therefore, it's probably slightly easier to get in OOS.

Then, NCF has a reputation instate as being "weird" so maybe more OOS-ers apply? Another possibility.

just got my acceptance today! yay!
does anyone know when financial aid information will be made available? the acceptance letter made absolutely no mention of aid.

This isn't in response to anyone else, but I'm sending in my deposit! Hooray!

@erika: I received my financial aid letter a week or two after I got my acceptance letter. I think you can find how much of aid you'll receive on the website. It's very straight forward. Like GPA and SAT score.

@souglash: I'm not sure if erika was referring to need-based aid or merit aid. Yeah, it's fairly simple to calculate how much merit aid you'll be offered...

I got a post card that said the full financial aid packet will be mailed out March 15th.

i was referring to both merit aid and need-based aid. but thanks! march 15th sounds good. coming up pretty soon, as a matter of fact...

and standardprints, what do mean about it being easy to calculate how much merit aid you'll probably receive?

Here is New College's remarkably transparent webpage regarding the scholarships they offer: New College of Florida.

Enter your SAT Math and Verbal scores and your high school GPA to get your Institutional Rating, and you can find out what level of Four Winds Award you'll get. (I'm assuming that you're applying as an out-of-state freshman.) There are also Affinity Awards, IB Scholar Awards, and Excellence Awards for National Merit scholars.

Does anybody happen to know how they calculate GPA? it seems like they weight grades from their admissions statistics, but I couldn't find how they weight it anywhere on the site.
