Accepted 2010 Freshman

I sincerely doubt you have to worry, a lot of people have been admitted to USF with far less competitive stats.

Anyone here know how hard it is to get into a chemistry or biology major at USF?

^Getting into a chemistry or biology major at USF is easy for an incoming freshman, getting out with a degree in chemistry or biology major is hard work.

lizard, you seem to be the “go to” for USF info. Son is applying now for fall 2011. GPA 3.25, 80+ hrs community service, JROTC 4 yrs, ACT- 18, SAT- Reading 480, Math 560, Writing 530, employed. Plans to study Architecture. Looking at Tampa but would like SRQ Manatee as well. any chance?

With your son’s GPA and test scores, admission at USF-Tampa is not guaranteed. You should phone USF-Sarasota admissions, and maybe USF-St. Pete too, and ask them if he can get in there if denied admission to Tampa. Too, if your son would consider doing ROTC program in college, that could maybe get him admitted into Tampa. I’ve heard stories about students getting admitted with poorer stats if they did the ROTC, but i’m not sure how true that is–maybe call the USF ROTC program to check on that route if it might interest him. Architecture major I think is only offered in Tampa; I don’t know much about Sarasota/Manatee branch other than it is only USF location offering hospitality major which ties in with tourist industry in Sarasota area. Good Luck!

USF was the only school I applied to, and to be completely honest, I’ve only seen one get turned away. I had 6 academic success factors and an 1130 on my only SAT try, and I got a response in a matter of days. I was sort of concerned about the SAT score, but it seems their minimums are quite low (at least from other schools). I honestly wouldn’t worry too much, their requirements aren’t high at all.

^^Not to be a downer, but not everyone who applies to USF gets in. USF’s 2009/2010 Common Data Set indicates USF received 29,631 freshman applications, only 12,767 applicants were accepted. 43% of freshman applicants were admitted, 57% were not admitted.

Thanks! I never even heard of a college using Academic Success Factors, but I am also from Pennsylvania. :)
