Accepted (and torn!) by Andover and Exeter

Hi guys! So as you know i chose to matriculate to Andover, and now I just have a question - does one always get paired with someone in the same grade as them, or is it possible I might not be with an Upper?

By the way, I’m super psyched for the fall, how about you guys?

Aw, thanks lolagirl. I wish you all the best. :)

Oh Big Brother is watching!  :p

I’m currently a senior at Exeter. I was accepted to both Exeter and Andover just like you.

I don’t really know why I chose Exeter over Andover. When I visited both schools for interviews, I just felt more at home at Exeter.
But if I am given the chance to go back to four years ago, I’m not sure if I would make the same decision.

I just want to warn you- Exeter is much more rigorous academically than Andover. Exonians (that’s what we call ourselves) usually get about 3 to 4 hours of sleep every night. It’s extremely stressful if you want to maintain a high GPA here.

Exeter has Saturday classes, and on weekdays, our classes end at 6. There’s been some talk recently about adopting a new schedule because the lack of sleep of the student body has become a serious problem. We were on an experimental schedule last term, starting 25 minutes late and ending 25 minutes early.

I like Exeter, though. A lot of opportunities, both in academics and EC. There is a stereotype that Exeter is more math and science oriented. That stereotype is just wrong. Exeter’s English and history department are simply amazing and extremely challenging. We have the biggest secondary school library in the US. But our math and science courses are extremely challenging too (I’m not talking about the intro or intermediate courses, but 500 level math courses- they are indeed challenging).

Exeter has 44 more school days and 286 more school hours per year than Andover (I might be wrong about this… but roughly it’s right.)
If you want a more laid-back high school experience, I would advise you to go to Andover.

But even in senior spring, I am burdened with work. Work Work Work. That’s what we, Exonians, do.

I’m not trying to scare you away from Exeter. Just telling the truth from experience. I would call this reminiscence bittersweet. I ended up getting into my top choice college, but despite this result, if someone asks me to repeat my Exeter experience, I would never ever do it again.

But I have my loyalties. Exeter is amazing.

Hope this helped and good luck with your choice.
