I had an idea that would help some of us going to apply this year.

I was thinking that all the people who made things like "chance me" threads last year may be able to post what their application looked like applying for a certain school which they got accepted to so we know what that schools looking for.

This way we have a certain understanding of what level schools are at, also any tips with applying to certain schools will be much appreciated.

EXAMPLE:
Accepted to Lawrencville

99% on ssat
100 AP classes
volunteered in uganda for 3 summers
straight A's since 2nd grade
12 years of piano
etc.

I wish I had this when I was applying but,
Accepted to Deerfield
97% On SSAT
I tutored kids with learning disabilities since 3rd grade, and I’ve had straight A’s all my life.
FYI, I’m not trying to sound like I’m stuck up or better than anyone but that’s the stuff
I put on my application.

One caveat - what stats applied to a specific person may not apply to someone else. Also - those stats aren’t an indicator of what a school is looking for - no more than if someone with 75% stats got into a top school

What schools look for changes each year depending on the student population. There are also a lot of very subjective things that you won’t see:

the connection you made or did not make with the Adcom

your personality and the fit with the school

your passion for something

whether your parents or family with be difficult to deal with

what side of Earth the sun and moon rose that day

how tired the Adcoms are and how far down you are in the pile

I’m being facetious about some of those. But there’s too many variables and too many kids left feeling dejected because they met the “proposed” stats and still didn’t get a spot. Even full pays with everything going for them get left out in the cold. There is just too much competition. And these days, perfect SSAT scores are a dime a dozen which leads the question “academically qualified but so what?” when there are so many others to choose from.

Just be the best person you can be. Sometimes it is not the student who is a cookie cutter image of every top student, but the one who is less than perfect but stood out in some way that resonated.

So - if I could be so bold - don’t copy other students here lest you find yourself in a homogeneous pool of thousands. Be yourself and the right school with match you if there is room and funds available.

@markalex1, I meant that I didn’t know about the site when I was applying. @ Ilax44, I needed full financial aid, cause I couldn’t and still can’t afford a bs education
