Accepted at Harvard as freshman and declined admission. Having second thoughts...

Last spring, I was accepted at Harvard. However, I chose to turn my acceptance down in favor of another top 20 school where I incorrectly assumed the social "fit" would be better. Now, I'm beginning to regret my decision for a number of other reasons (beyond the social aspect). For one, I don't feel intellectually stimulated here. Also, my academic interests have changed, and this school doesn't offer a department or many classes that would allow me to cultivate them. I strongly believe that Harvard would have been a much better fit for me, both academically and socially.

My main question follows: Since I was accepted to Harvard in the spring, how will my chances of transferring be affected? Do you think I have a better chance than other transfer students because of my previous acceptance? What do I need to do at this school to prove to the admissions committee that I "want my spot back" badly enough?

Thanks so much.

Pick up the phone. Call the admissions office. Ask what you need to do. This may be a case of reactivating your application, rather than a case of applying for a transfer.

I’m curious to know which school you’re currently attending.

The OP’s last post was about being a student at Vanderbilt.

Yes, calling the Harvard admissions office seems to be your best bet. Good luck.

As stated on the H website, you have 2 choices at this point, either finish the year and apply as a fall 2011 transfer or don’t attend college after this semester and apply as a fr for fall 2011:

Your chances of transferring are mostly going to be affected by the fact that the transfer admission rate is lower than the fr rate.
