falls vs. spring transfer

On the Harvard application they ask you to check off whether you want to apply to transfer for fall, spring or both.
I REALLY REALLY don't want to transfer in the spring but I'm afraid only checking fall would **** off the admissions people (because it's apparently much easier to get in for spring and i don't want to imply that I think I'm a given for fall). On the other hand, i feel like if I check off spring i might be automatically placed in a pool of "students who are willing to come in the spring" (and I definitely don't want that to happen).

I know I'm getting way ahead of myself a. worrying about such a small part of the application and b. assuming i actually have a chance for fall or spring admissions at harvard but I really could use some advice.

i dont get it, let's say u are accepted for the spring, wat does that mean?

basically if it was between harvard in the spring and any other school in the fall, i would pick one of the other schools

i was wondering about this too, does anyone know? I'm calling Harvard tomorrow to ask some questions, so I'll include this question.

wat do u do, spend another semester at a place u cannot stand, and then transfer....

Huh? I am sure you are not upsetting an admissions officer at another school by refusing to submit a separate application for the spring.

According to whom? When I was last at Byerly, I remember hearing that the 60 to 70 or so transfers accepted last year comprised both fall and spring acceptances, with fall being the majority.

I could very well be mistaken, but I remember one admissions officer informing me that they only accepted 10 (or 11?) students for spring 2006.

there's a spot on this years application where you check that you would be happy to start at harvard in either september 06 or january 07. you don't submit a separate application, they just let you in in january. I'm not sure why or how this works, but it happened to one of my friends with freshman admission for USC, she's just about to head down to college now for the first time.

I know that, I have the application; I was drawing an analogy.

It's pretty confusing. Let me know what they say when you speak to the admissions office tomorrow.

wait, seeing that I've been posting on here for about a month, I probably should have garnered this by now if it's true, but nspeds, are you leaving Gtown? Why? Will you PM me and let me know if you are, I don't want to hijack the thread, but I'm really curious to know why you don't like it if you are trying to transfer again (I'm thinking this because you said you have H's app....)

No, I am not. I was thinking of leaving, but decided against it.
