S is being recruited by Pomona coaches and has been asked to apply ED. Anyone else in the same position? Anyone have an idea of how much the coaches' support influences Admissions? In other words, are there times when despite coaches' support for ED application, athlete is rejected?

my s was a recruited athlete 2 years ago. I think the coach’s input was a big help, however the coach was very clear that his influence is limited. if your S is in the ballpark for admits the coach’s help can be the final tip. The coach himself can give you some input on the chances.
Being recruited does not equal admission as we found out in the application process. It is surprising however that things do seem to work out for the best -
good luck!

Did you ask the coach for admissions to give your son a pre-read?

If the coach is asking that’s a good sign that the student would be admitted as long as the academics are within the usual range for Pomona and there is some other EC besides sports.

My son was asked to submit an unofficial transcript and test scores and then was given a pre-read. He was told he would be accepted. Also was asked to apply ED but chose not to as the school was not his first choice. Good luck-hope it works out for your son!
