While I am ecstatic about my Berkeley acceptance, on my home page, it just says:
"You're admitted to the College of Letters and Science as a freshman for Fall 2011."

The major I applied for was:Molecular and Cell Biology - Plan I (Biochemistry and Molecular Biology)
Does this mean I got my major? Or something else?
Thanks for the feedback! :D

All freshman admits to Letters and Science enter as undeclared.

You then take the prerequisite courses for your desired major and declare the major. For some majors (the ones in L&S that are capped as listed with a red hash mark here, or Business Administration in the School of Business, or a major in some other college like Engineering, Natural Resources, or Chemistry), you have to apply to change to or declare the major.

does anyone know how hard it is to internally transfer into chemical engineering in the college of chemistry? I had applied for undeclared/pre-business OOS and I got into that, but I want to do chemE now.

In the mean time, you may want to select courses appropriate for Chemical Engineering majors. For example, Chemistry 4 instead of 1, Math 1 instead of 16, Physics 7 instead of 8.

Ye I will look into that in the near future.

“Applications for on-campus transfer are considered on a case-by-case basis and are accepted year-round.”

Does this mean I can immediately start my study in the College of Chemistry when they accept my transfer or does that mean I will still have to wait for the semester to end in order to pursue my study?

You won’t be in the College of Chemistry until you are admitted. But you can still take the Chemistry, Physics, Math, etc. courses appropriate for a Chemical Engineering major. Even if you are not admitted, those courses can be used to satisfy prerequisites for other majors (e.g. Physics, Math, Statistics), or breadth requirements.

Is Business Administration a hard major to transfer in? The major was closed during registration, so I had to pick Letters and Science as 2nd choice.

^^ For anyone planning on “applying” to the Haas school of business undergraduate program.

No one actually gets accepted to the program as a freshman. You have to take the pre-requisites and apply either during your sophomore OR junior year. (sophomore year is the more common route since its a 2 year program)

Thanks for the reply guys. But so technically, I can still get into it if I meet all the requirements right? It’s not as hard of a major to get in like Engineering correct?

It’s hard in a different way. Engineering, math, and science classes are way harder than the Haas pre-reqs but transferring to engineering doesn’t require you to do ECs or have leadership positions. Also, the average transfer into Haas is 3.7+ gpa with relatively easier courses while engineering is something like 3.33+ gpa with hard courses.

So I am guessing I do not have to email/call UCB about my intention to switch College? I can just go there in September and apply to switch to College of Chemistry while taking the prerequisite courses for Chem E? If admitted, I will be able to attend College of Chem straightaway in my sophomore year? Also, how hard is it to switch College at UCB?
