^I don’t think UCSD is “2nd tier”. Generally accepted, the “1st tier” (if there is one) is UC Berkeley, UCLA, and UCSD close behind.

nah, ucsd is not in the same tier as la and berk. they have d1 teams, we don’t. end of story. we’re in the 2nd tier.

Eh I wouldn’t call SD 2nd tier because that usually refers to UCD, UCI and UCSB. But at the same time it’s definitely not in the ranks of UCB and UCLA. 1.5 tier? lol

When naming a first or second tier school, its based off of academics, not athletics. Based of academics alone, UCSD does fall under the Tier 1.

If you want to base it off of athletics also the rankings go like this:

Tier 1- UCLA, Cal, UCI (all D1 School and good academically)
Tier 2- UCSB and UCR (all D2 schools for all their sports and decent academically)
Tier 3- UCSD and others (UCSD- Great academically, but the athletics are either D2 or D3)

Dawg, please.

SD is second tier. It should know its role as a second tier school and stop trying to usurp the rightful recognition of UCB and UCLA as first tier schools.

anyone who thinks sd is 1st tier is delusional and needs to get a grip on reality

sure, sd is catching up to la, but it is NOT 1st

^I am not delusional, I think that is an unnecessary blow. You don’t need to be rude. It is my opinion that UCSD, academically, is on the scale of Berkeley and UCLA. You are also entitled to your own opinion.

Wow, how bizarre.
We have like completely opposite situations.
I’m a Californian who got accepted into UCSD, BU, and NYU. hahaha. And I REALLY want to go to NYU. The only reason it may be a big fat “no,” and truly the ONLY reason, is because I simply cannot afford it. Otherwise, I REALLY want to go East.
Anyway, it’s pretty much been said: Stanford, UCB, UCLA, UCSD. I wish I had applied to UCB or LA, but I was so sure I would go East. What a failure that was…

i also wanted to go to the east coast at first… but i wouldn’t want to buy snow shoes and all those padded clothing for winter from REI =( andd when it becomes cold/rainy/snowy, i tend to feel gloomy and i don’t really study… XD
i’m a Californian and would like to stay one =D esp. after hearing about my friend’s experiences living on the east coast before moving here…

(i think ucsd is 1.5 tier too =))

How the hell do any of you know anything about how good UCSD is compared to Berkeley and UCLA? Have any of you been to and taken classes from all three schools and have come to the conclusion that you were learning more at UCLA and Berkeley and concretely found that your opportunities to get the job that you want would be higher at those schools? No, that’s what I though. It doesn’t matter what “tier” UCSD is. The only reason UCSD isn’t known on the east coast is because of sports. Ask your friends back at home and see how many are familiar with Johns Hopkins, CMU, or Emory.

Are you my neighbor or my friend? Do I say “Hi” to you when I walk out on my lawn every morning? Do I ever offer you to partake in a pie that I just baked in my oven? No, that’s what I though.

How did you come to conclude that I haven’t taken GE courses at LA or I haven’t been to an Economics summer program at Berkeley? DAWG YOU DONT KNOW ME!

^And you can conclude that UCSD is that much worse than LA and Berkeley because of this?

no, ucsd is not that much “worse” than ucla or berkeley, but it is NOT in the same tier as them

seriously, just get over it. ask ANYBODY about what they consider the premier UCs, the “tier 1” UCs, 90% of people will say berkeley and la and stop there, not mentioning ucsd

sd/davis is 2nd tier

then the other uc’s are in tier 3/4/whatever

i’ve always heard of UCSD as behind UCB and UCLA but not by that much. Not like it being clear cut far behind the other two. Not just saying this because I’m headed to SD but because typically I do hear that when you ask people about the top UCs, they’ll say UCB then UCLA then UCSD. UCSD isn’t exactly there yet but people often mention it as not that far from UCLA. At least academically.

in the same way, ucd isn’t that much far behind ucsd, so do we add ucd into tier 1 as well?

ucb and ucla are 1 and 2.

ucsd is 7. ucd and ucsb are 11. yeah, as a ucsd student who LOVES this school, i’d love to be grouped together with berkeley and la, but the truth is that ucsd is definitely not on the same level as those. any non-delusional, rational human being would realize this. is this saying that sd sucks? no. but this IS an sd forum and there will be sd homers here who are delusional who will try to group sd with la and berkely.

^Once again, I am not delusional. Seriously you’ve made your point, you can stop being an as$hole.

no thanks, i will continue to do what i do best

Ok… let me make a statement that I think we can all agree on to stop the arguments…UCSD IS SOME TIER UC

Fight.loud noises!

ucsandiego915, it’s okay. Just him be the internet tough guy he is.
