I’ve recently been accepted to UCLA. It’s a great school, but I don’t know what to do now. I pretty much thought I wouldn’t get in, so I’ve gotten really acquainted with my other first choice, UCSD. Now I have a problem. I feel very comfortable at UCSD. I love how laid back it is and La Jolla is great. I’m scared that if I don’t pick UCLA that I will regret it later on in life. Could you guys help me out with my decision? Pros and cons lists maybe =-) Thanks so much to all!!!

Have you already heard back from UCSD? Last year my friends brother got into Berkeley and UCLA but got rejected from UCSD...weird.

Id go with UCLA. Im a little biased, cuz i spent my summer there and i love EVERYTHING about it, but objectively, it is the better school. I got into UCLA too, dont know about ucsd yet, and love la jolla about as much as you do, but i wouldnt blow and an admission to ucla on that preference. Maybe for your particular major UCSD is best, but id say UCLA.

uCSD fo sho!

UCLA has a significantly better reputation than UCSD.

if "fit" is one of your top criteria, then i'd recommend UCSD, since that's where you feel most comfortable at.

dont pass up ucla

Well first, what's your planned major? What's important to you about colleges?

It's true that UCLA has a better reputation than UCSD, but that's not everything. UCLA has many departments that are better than their counterparts and UCSD, but UCSD also has a bunch that are better than their counterparts at UCLA. Both have very nice campuses, while UCSD is more foresty. UCLA has a tangible party scene, while UCSD is more laid back in that regard. Most of all it depends on you and what is important to you.

If you want to get any useful advice out of this thread, it would be best to just make a list of what's important to you so people can work with that.

UCLA

i live in SD and visit UCSD a lot because my friend goes there. That place is so boooring. Everyone is really focused. i dunno....if you like that competitive atmosphere go for UCSD then.

do NOT listen to this reputation crap- both schools have great academics and how that is used depends on you. go where you feel more confortable, where you believe you will have more fun. you can do very very good where ever you go as long as you want to. ;)

I would not pass up UCLA for UCSD unless your major is a lot better at UCSD. I wish i could be in your position!

UCLA hands down.

what major are you looking at?

I heard UCSD is kickass for bioengineering...

Visit both and decide what kind of feel you prefer. They both have very different feels, so that's a big factor. The second thing to do is research what kind of classes you'll be taking in your major, and the quality of those classes.

^ I completely agree with aim - visit them both (on a school day)... walk around, sit in on classes, eat where the students eat, and make your decision on where you feel most comfortable.

Having gone to UCSD an an undergrad and having friends at UCLA whom I visit off and on, these are two pretty different schools. You should visit UCLA and see if you enjoy it there since you are already acquainted with UCSD. I was sort of in your situation once so I empathize (though choosing between UCB and UCSD).

As others have said, now that you're in, Visit them both again. I particularly liked what Icarus suggested about walking around, eating, and seeing where you feel most comfortable. Honestly, I don't see much of a difference in overall academic quality and both have fine reputations. Your choice of major should be considered - compare the departments. Otherwise, Trust your gut instinct about which one feels like a better choice for YOU.

I Think You Should Go To Ucsd Its A Great School. Very Pretty Campus Too

Visit both; see where you feel more at home. Can you see yourself at one school more than the other? They're both great institutions and you can't go wrong with either one.

UCSD seemed too boring to me. All my friends are rejecting UCLA for UCSD. The only good thing about UCSD is that it's closer to surfing.
