Accepted but now I want to change my major?

I was accepted as a Civil Engineering Major but now I want to change it to Electrical Engineering?

Is it possible to change my major at orientation? I have heard Cal Poly is notorious for making it difficult to change majors?!

you have to wait until after the first quarter to request a switch

wait so you are unable to switch during Orientation?

Is it difficult to switch majors?

Lots of people want to switch majors here. You have to attend at least one quarter to apply to switch majors. I’m on the same boat, this is my first quarter so I’ll find out after spring. You also need a really good gpa for things to be in your favor

wait so there is no guarantee that you will be able to switch majors?

I got accepted into a impacted major. so would it be possible to change to another impacted major?

its not like I went to an easy major to an impacted one

Many students on campus want to switch their majors especially engineering.I’ve met a couple that want to switch from mechanical to civil or vice versa.but I’m not sure of the results.my math professor told our class that they would be increasing the requirement gpa to get into the program hence the major also

What if I applied without a minor and want one now?

Pretty sure you can

It’s pretty simple, just get the “Request for a Minor Reward” form and fill it out, then have the department chair of the minor you are seeking sign it and drop it off at the registrar. You can even do this during the orientation.

Not to beat a dead horse here, but what about changing majors outside of certain colleges. For example, switching from a psychology major to an electrical engineering major or a business major to a biology major.

I understand it’s considerably harder, but is it commonly done?

Well, yes. I understand that its not guaranteed, but what is in life?

I just want to know the level of difficulty (preferably from a current cpp student)
