Accepted But Very Concerned about Money

I was just accepted to Michigan a couple days ago and it is definitely my first choice. But as a prospective out of state student, I don't want to be intimidated by the cost and eventually enroll somewhere else. So on average, how much aid does Michigan offer to out of state students? Any suggestions?

Thanks.

I'm in the same position and have been wondering the same things. Hopefully the cost isn't too bad.

I heard that most students dont recieve too much aid. But unless u go to a public school/state school in your state, you will end up paying 30 g's for a private (which will be the same cost as Michigan but onyl for 2 years)

I'm OOS too. I read on collegeboard that Michigan meets 90% of need.

Is this true?

***? i herad if your OOS Michigan doesnt that much aid o_O

My friend I think is paying like... 15k? or so, he's oos from NJ

engineering school

I'm out of state, and I got a pretty good financial aid package.

I did not even get any scholarships from Michigan...yet....

I think Michigan generally reserves its financial aid for in-staters. You have to remember that Michigan is a state school, so it has to service the taxpayers funding it before it gives it to the out-of-staters. I hear the only people from outside the state at Michigan are from pretty wealthy families anyway, mainly NY, NJ, and California.

Are there separate applications for scholarships, or do most of them just look at your application for admission?

You are automatically considered for scholarships.

i'm out of state.. didn't get much at all.
i will be in SO much debt when i graduate.

I'm oos and received the full federal aid (not much) and small outside scholarships (e.g. Byrd), but zippo from UM. I was a val, top 1% standardized test score, and a Ross pre-admit. So, in my view, UM aid stinks for oos. Unfortunately, my parents have been saving for my education for years. It's weird how the CSS Profile penalizes parents who save for their children's education, yet rewards those with greater income and no savings.

CollegeBound, the devil is the details... the way they calculate need.

Does anyone know if the School of Music gives a lot of aid for out-of-state?

What state are you from? That makes a HUGE difference. Probably the only reason you might get scholarships.
