Accepted by Baruch College

Hi all,

I got accepted by Baruch College. I’m planning to move to NYC from Seattle.
I don’t have anyone in NY. Please help me out with some advices. I heard NYC is a very busy place and very expensive when it comes to housing.
Where is it cheaper to live. I’m thinking about Brooklyn or Queens.
What activities can I do there. I’m going to study Finance.
How much does monthly bus/subway pass cost? average shared rooms?
Anything will help

Thank you

Queens would be cheapest, but expect at least a 30 minute commute, depending on where you plan to live in Queens (make sure you are either near the LIRR or a subway). As for activities to do, Queens is a bit boring and may feel more suburban than urban. Most of the time you will probably hang out in Brooklyn/Manhattan.

I’m sure you saw this but just in case they have a res life website for accepted students [Baruch College Residence Life](http://www.baruch.cuny.edu/studentaffairs/housing/index.html)

Hi Aset!
Where are you from, man?
I also got accepted to Baruch and am doing finance major as well.
I neither know where I am gonna live in NYC yet.
Maybe we could be roommates to split the price.

Call Baruch, they do have access to dorms. Also, Craigs list can give you a bunch of rooms to see. Living in Brooklyn is a bit cheaper, and you can easily get to Manhattan by train from Brooklyn.

Baruch works with something called EHS it stands for education housing services. It is basically a dorm room that you would share with one or two other people or you can have on privately for higher price. If you are unsure of the city this could be a good way for you to meet new people with a not as high as a Manhattan apartment price. I lived here for one semester and then decided to move back home for privacy ( I have serious OCD and my room mate was a slob). They have security guards at the front door 24/7, you can not enter the building without an ID card, they are common areas that hang out in like a study room, library, rec. room with tv’s and pool tables and what not. Then they have kitchens on every 3 floors, as well as laundry rooms in the buildings. They have three locations I believe, but I think one of them may have been subed out to just NYU students now. You can see pricing and schedule a tour if you seemed interested, their website is [Educational Housing Services](http://www.studenthousing.org/)
