CUNY Baruch

Can anyone give me advice about Baruch. I missed the deadline for the Honors College, but am still considering it. The only thing turning me off about it is that its a commuter school and I'm afraid I won't have a great college experience by going there as opposed to going to a traditional university with a campus, dorms, sports, etc. It just seems as though I'll be missing something. Can someone give me a different perspective? Thanks

Yes, Baruch is a commuter school; however, they provide a really good education and an unbeatable price! You also get to attend school in one of the best parts of the country and one of the best parts of NY.

well I live in NYC...so it isn't like "YAY going to school in NYC"...the commuter deal turns me off...and makes it seem like 13th grade.

Parikhs, if you really are turned off by being a commuter, just get an appartment near the school, and live in NY. This would be similar to attending NYU. However, if you really need a campus, and I do feel that campuses are overrated, Baruch would not be for you!

Well I just feel it won't be as social as going to NYU. I feel it will be more like high school where you only know a few close friends and the rest are acquitances. In college, it seems to be more like a family in your dorm...more things to do with more people around.

I agree with Taxguy,

Since you were also considering NYU , the money you would save could easily pay for you a nice apartment in the city or you could look into getting a share

I know people who went to Baruch.
It is a commuter school and there is no college life whatsoever.
And I do mean NONE AT ALLLLLL.

Eddieee, I attended Baruch for undergrad. I had both friends and a girlfriend. I also did a lot of things in NY. NY was my campus! Yes, you don't have the spontaneous events that can happen in dorms, but there is a life if you want to join clubs and meet people.

Anyone considering attending any CUNY college must realize that the schools were never intended to offer a residential college experience. So why criticize them for somthing they never said they would provide? And there are some recreational opportunities at some of the CUNY campuses. I believe that Baruch just inaugurated a new multi-story student center and offices.
