This is leagues outside my usual reservedness when it comes to this sort of thing, but I just received my letter of acceptance yesterday, and my deposit will be going out tomorrow! Congrats to all presently in and those who will be accepted shortly!

I'm sure more efficient and wide-reaching [Facebook] means of getting in-touch with fellow members of the future freshman class, but why not get the ball rolling here? Rather bluntly, I'm Sean, and I'm from about a half-hour east of Pittsburgh. My major's still greatly undecided, but I will, with certainty, be playing baseball next year.

Hello! I know exactly what you mean about “usual reservedness” (this is my first College Confidential post), but my excitement to meet new classmates (and I’m guessing yours) encouraged response.

I just thought I’d tell you that in a few days you’re probably going to get a welcome email from the admissions office that, as you suspected, includes a link to the Swarthmore College Class of 2015 Facebook group, where a good number of super-friendly people admitted ED I–myself included–are eagerly anticipating the acceptance of ED II students into the group. (It’s actually slightly overwhelming!)

You have to request to join the group, and I’m not sure, but I don’t think they let you in until they receive your deposit?

Anyway, a hearty congratulations Be prepared for a lot of “I can’t wait for Ride the Tide!!!”

I never anticipated that after being accepted and joining the facebook group, my notification box would accumulate 15 or so friend requests from fellow 2015-ers (some of whom I haven’t even spoken with yet!) It’s very welcoming, but of course I hope to save most of the meeting for real life in August!

It’s pretty chatty, but it has slowed down somewhat. I think part of the problem is that everybody is still just as busy as ever, and it’s difficult to really get to know people on the internet.

If you’re too anxious to wait, I’ll try to give you a break-down.

I’d say…ehhhh…

35% Harry Potter (As a lukewarm HP fan, I’m actually pretty intimidated by this.)
30% plans for next year (academic interests, sports, musical involvement)
20% miscellaneous subjects (usually “nerdy,” vaguely Swat related, or random getting-to-know-you facts)
15% “I can’t wait for April/August!!!”

This Is Like My Third Post && My First Two Are About “I GOT ACCEPTED TO SWARTHMORE” LMAO, But Serious Question. . .

I Just Got Back From Harvard Model Congress && Spent Like Over 1,000 Dollars && My Mom Says She Isn’t Paying The Deposit On Time (Like Feb. 26th I Think)

I Called The Office && The Secretary Said It Would Be OK && That She’d Sent An Email To Clarify But She Hasn’t Sent It. . . IM SCARED?!!?!?!?!?!?

Okay, I have a little more anonymity here, so I’ll just say that some of the people who seem to be really hardcore HP fans are just trying to fit in with the people who have acted in HP musicals and stuff >_>

I have a friend in the Class of 2014, and I asked her if I would be ostracized, and she was like “UM, YES,” but she’s also a bit of a jokester. Soooo…let’s hope she’s kidding or that I’m at least anonymous enough :P
