S just received his acceptance by mail (RD) - the online thing still says it's under review. Large envelope with all the info in a UMass folder. He applied for a Biology major.

Stats are OOS, 3.2 UW, SAT 1250/1600. Minimal EC's, but he is a trained fire fighter so that's maybe a different hook.

Just received an e-mail from OIT telling me to activate my online account and that I have been accepted. Didn’t get any mail yet though. Online it still says “under review”.

Stats: 3.7 UW, SAT 700 CR, 790 MA, 710 WR, 2200/2400 or 1490/1600

My S just heard he’s accepted to UMass in Isenberg School of Management. Whew! A relief - some of his friends were deferred and he was getting worried. No financial aid info. His twin sister still waiting to hear from UMass, but she’s been accepted at SUNY Purchase, another semi-affordable option.
S also accepted at Indiana but not in the Kelley School, and they’re not tuition-friendly to OOS students. He was accepted at Syracuse but also not in the business school, and got $23,000 in FA but that still leaves $29k to be made up.

Another question: I know the first batch of A’s were sent the first week of March. Are there set times when others come out? I assume it’s all done by when you applied. I heard we’re all supposed to know by April 1st (that probably means online/email since they can’t control the post office).

D received an email yesterday inviting her to register for one of the accepted student open houses in April. Registered online with her admissions ID and recceived a confirmation back. No letter yet and application status still says under review.

Was told last week by Admissions that mailings are basically tied to when the file is complete. In D’s case, they wanted to see second Q grades because her SATs were modest. I suspect that this is why she was not in the first batch.

She is OOS (NY), Private Catholic HS, 94 average with 2 APs, varsity sports and good ECs, SATs 530 R, 540M, 530 W.

She kept her apps to target schools and was accepted everywhere she applied. UMass was in her top three, so it will be an interesting discussion.

Hope this was helpful to those still waiting.

handemom - don’t worry, you and your family certainly aren’t the only ones waiting. At this point I’m thinking the no news is better than bad news. Right?

I think we are all supposed to know by April 1st.

I’m not all that worried. My son was already accepted to UConn, UDel and Syracuse so I would think he would be accepted here, but you never know. I just can’t believe they (and several other schools as well) have been dragging their feet.

Very few kids from my son’s high school applied. I know of one who was accepted EA. I don’t know about the other, if any.

I don’t think you can say “dragging their feet,” since they said they’d be sending out letters in mid-March. They actually started earlier than that.

A number of students, including my son, have gotten “Declare UMass Amherst” emails clearly addressed to accepted students (invitation to open house for such) before getting an acceptance letter, so they are not that well co-ordinated.

My son didn’t get that email. We also never toured the school, we kind of ran out of steam, after touring a bunch. I thought if he was accepted then we’d take a look, but at this point in time he already has narrowed things down to UDel vs UConn.

Same situation for UVM, never toured, haven’t heard.

I just want to clarify that the ‘dragging feet’ comment has more to do with my own frustration. We are running out of time to visit and/or revisit the ‘short list’, and some of them have their admitted students day on the same date to boot.

Oh well…my son is just happy to have some nice choices.

Handemom: UMASS Amherst actually has 8 admitted open houses in April - every Thursday and Friday, so getting to one should not be a problem.

Based on your son’s admissions, I would be surprised if he did not get accepted. Although, UMass can be funny. Lots of increased demand by in-staters due to the financial crisis will make it more selective than usual. Nevertheless, based on my D’s stats, there would clearly apppear to be room in the Class of 2013 for your kid.

I think this year all the schools are somewhat ‘funny’. All the previous yield calculations can be thrown out the window. Yields are probably dropping for the privates, and soaring for the publics.
