I am a sophmore in high school and Brown is my dream school. I was wondering if any of you currently attending Brown or were accepted to Brown could share you statistics. Like how many Ap’s you took, what you scored on the AP tests, GPA’s, your “hook”, SAT, class rank, extra curriculars or anything else that might have helped.

Hmmm… after you put this up, I realize I should post up my stats in the RD 2013 thread. But, because this little post led me to where I’ll be more helpful in general, I’ll give a little.
Ap’s: 6 before/during junior year. Coulda been 7, but didn’t take the Calc AB test. Just took BC and english lit as a senior. Scores Brown saw: 5 5’s and a 4.

GPA: I think it would have been a record at my school (pretty sure highest ever), but someone beat my by <0.05. =P But she worked a helluva lot harder than I did, so no complaints.

Extra-currics: what I love. Lacrosse (3-year varsity), debate (only placed twice in tournaments though)

SAT: not gonna report it, cause they looked at my ACT: 35

Things that may have helped: well… I liked my essay on my academic experience… cause I wrote about stuff that involves me as a 5-year old at home. Other things: I don’t know. I honestly don’t understand why I got in when other people at my school didn’t, who frankly seem more amazing than me. (The GPA thing hardly even counts/matters, because it just led to my rank. For some reason, people in my year seemed to have taken more classes than previously, leading to higher weighted GPAs. I wasn’t much higher than the person ranked 10th).

There are some threads with detailed stuff about people accepted at Brown this year. I think the Official RD Decisions for 2013 thread? You could try searching for it.

But please, be yourself. Don’t mold yourself into something Brown is looking for - figure out what your interests are and go with them.

Check the ED/RD decisions thread, but don’t try to model yourself after what you see there. Those short questionnaires are skeletons, not the complete picture: we don’t know what an “excellent” teacher recommendation means, or what specifically they wrote in their essays. If you present yourself honestly and emphasize whatever might be unusual/attractive/interesting about you, then you’ll probably stand a good chance.

That being said (and not to be discouraging), chance plays a huge role in college admissions. Ivies (and any top school) are often seemingly random in their admit/reject choices. Just because someone who matches your stats profile exactly is rejected doesn’t mean that won’t be admitted, and vice versa. Good luck!
