So I'm pretty ****ed that I didn't get Engineering, even though I should be happy I got accepted in general. So is it possible to get into Engineering if I am in DGS.

its possible but not likely because of how competitive engineering is, and idk if I would commit to DGS and have to go to Illinois only to not be able to transfer.

I’m currently doing that. If you think you can get a 3.8-4.0 gpa, go for it. Otherwise steer clear.

Getting a 3.5-4 gpa freshman year is possible but not easy. My son is a freshman mechanical engineering student. 1st semester he got 3 A’s, 2 A-'s, and a B+. This was fabulous !! …however, it ended up being a GPA of 3.68 (taking into account that Chemistry and Chemistry Lab are two different grades, and some classes are 3 credits, some are 4 credits and some are 1 credit—somehow it seems like the overall GPA should be higher but that is how it averages out).
