having been accepted to brown early decision, i’m now wondering (either from current brown students or others who got in ED and know about this) what minimum GPA i need to maintain second semester in order to not have to worry about getting rescinded. this isn’t because i plan on slacking or giving up next semester, it’s just that i’m taking a few very challenging classes and i’m worried about what would happen if, for instance, i were to get a C in AP physics next semester… at the moment my grades are almost all As, with 1-2 Bs, and i’m kind of guessing that as long as i average a 3.0 and balance any Cs with As in other classes, i should be okay… BUT i’m still kinda freaking out about this! can anyone either validate my 3.0 theory or replace it with a more accurate GPA i should maintain? thanks!

A B average is usually what happens 2nd semester I believe. Try not to get Cs though. A’s and B’s would be the better way to go than C’s and A’s balancing themselves out.

what if i were to get all As except for the one C in AP physics? that’s the class i’m really worrying about.

try to at least get a B-.
also talk to your teacher. most high schools work with students who got into brown / other good schools so if you talk to your teacher & make a real effort in the class, you should be fine.

Also curious about this. Accepted into good school, but will finish first semester with 6 A’s and a C in AP calc. I am taking 6 APs, but still wondering if that C will get me rescinded

it won’t get you rescinded, they really don’t want to do that, they are not evil.

If you have a rigid schedule, one C and the rest great should be fine. As pologirl said, seems a lot of HS go pretty easy on seniors that last semester too. Just make sure you do complete every course and try to still do your best.
The other thing for accepted Brown students is to decide whether to still take your AP tests. Some HS do require you take them, but if it is optional, you can decide if it is of any value to you since while they may help with placement in some subjects, they are rarely worth “credit” at Brown. My student (who was Val at HS) decided to only take 2 of the 4 was signed up for (and got refund of the $) and much less stressed the last month of HS!
