Accepted ED1 most likely going to fail a class

So basically I’m not very good at calculus. I got a B in AB last semester and I’m taking BC right now. We only have four tests this semester and I had the flu and pneumonia and I missed two straight weeks of school and literally an entire unit. I have all APs so making up the work has been damn near impossible but I’ve caught up with everything except for Calc BC. I’m trying but considering I’m not very good at the class (I got a 70 on the unit two test and I’m currently struggling in this third unit) I don’t see how I’m going to pass because I still haven’t taken the unit 1 test and I can’t find the time anywhere to study for it because of the fact I have all these other classes that I have work for and I just don’t know. Should I even put in my deposit for Emory if I’m probably going to be rescinded because of this failure? Or should I just put in the deposit for UGA because I don’t think they will rescind me for one fail simply because my stats are decently above their average. If I were to predict my end of semester grades at this point it will either be 2 As 1 B and 1 F or 3 As and one F. Money is tight in my family so a $500 deposit is a lot if I’m just going to be rescinded and be out all $500. Or do I get the money back when I get rescinded? Thanks.

@EmoryPorFavor : I doubt you will be rescinded. Also, is the class “easy” to others in it. Homework and a curve could help some. Just try to pass (you may get what Emory considers a D which is annoying but passing) and put in the deposit. If you actually predict an F, many just explain before you send a grade update. Also, rescinding I doubt has anything to do with your stats. If you want to attend Emory, send the deposit in. If not really (despite doing ED1), maybe don’t.

Also, the enrollment deposits are due for ED1 admits. Did you make a special arrangement with Emory because you were supposed to put in the deposit by January?

@bernie12 Yeah I’m stupid my parents already paid the deposit I didn’t even realize this so I guess it’s a moot point. I do really want to attend I mean Emory is my dream school I was planning on applying to other top schools like Cornell and Northwestern but after visiting all the campus’s, talking to students and doing research on all the colleges I was planning on applying to, I realized that I much preferred Emory overall. It would suck to be rescinded but I’m just trying to be realistic so that if the time comes and that happens I’m not completely crushed.

Chances of being rescinded are unlikely and you haven’t even failed the class yet.

I’m looking at this thread because Emory it’s one of the schools my son is applying to. Way back in the day, I was accepted to Yale RD and then fell apart my last trimester of my senior year (for no particularly good reason). My average dropped about 15 points (out of 100) including one minimally passing grade of 65. Yale did not rescind my admission.

At our info session, the admission rep mentioned rescinding an ED offer to a student that failed a class (I think it was a first semester class), so you never know. But, I would hope that if they do rescind your offer, the school would also refund your deposit. Best of luck.

If what you are saying is true, I doubt that they will rescind your offer of admissions. Emory is not looking to rescind people.

You should talk to your teacher and maybe he’ll give you a D or a C or maybe you do well on the next test and get a better grade or even do well and then go talk to him.

Regardless, if you are getting below a B and Emory is going to see that, you should write a letter to your admissions representative or have your counselor do it for you. This way they will know that it was unavoidable.
