Hey guys, first post on this forum. I'm really nervous about my grades this semester. I got accepted to Illinois' Business school for the upcoming school year with a 4.13 GPA and 31 ACT at a very competitive Illinois HS, but my grades this semester are pretty down. They could wind up anywhere from a 3.2 - 3.6 (technically, 3.0 or 3.8 are possibly, but very unlikely). I am enrolled in 4 academic AP classes, so my strength of schedule is very difficult. Most people tell me not to be worried as long as I keep it at a 3+, but my counselor said I should be nervous if I get even 2 C's in AP Classes (which would be a 3.6, at best), given that U of I's business school is very selective.

Should I be worried about my grades right now? Is there a chance that they would revoke my acceptance (to the business school, or the school period) if my grades are in the low-mid 3's, given the difficulty of my schedule?

Let me know if I left out any important info. Thanks!

Also, is it important that I accept my admission soon, assuming I'm sure I want to go there?

They should only even ASK you what the problem is if you get multiple Ds or an F.

Don’t worry about it man, there won’t be a problem with a couple Cs.

Even in the business program? You don’t think they’ll be mad if my GPA drops off by almost a full point?

Thanks for the response btw.

Don’t worry.

A couple of C’s is fine. The safe bet is keeping it above 3.0

You are fine

DaKniFe, are you pretty confident about that?

one more vote for “you should be fine just don’t fall off the deep end”

they really don’t care much as long as you don’t tank.

Relax. Stay above a 3.0 and you’ll be fine.

Aight thanks guys, I appreciate the honest support.

I’ve been deferred and can force myself to buckle down one more quarter so the thought of being borderline and getting in, and then worrying about final grades? UGH! What happens to kids who totally slack, not just at UIUC, they get a letter in JULY saying the place they thought they were going to school recinded and they got nothing? I think it might make sense to put deposits down on another, easier school to cover my butt!

You may want to be careful about putting down deposits on multiple schools. Some schools can rescind admission for that alone.

I doubt it will matter… when I went with my son for a visit…the presenter seemed to imply that an ACT as low as 19 would not necessarily rule someone out. He just got a ccepted for Engineering today, regular admission…we’ll wait to see how his other applications pan out
