Hi I'm currently a junior in hs and I really want to go to UIUC. Do you guys think I have a chance? (I'm calculating the gpa based on what I think I will also receive 1st semester senior year)

Weighted GPA: 3.76
Unweighted GPA: 3.3
I messed up my freshmen and sophomore years
ACT: 35
SAT: 2380
Good amount of ECs

My gpa is pretty low so I'm pretty unsure
Btw I want to apply to the business school

also I have 10 APs altogether
about 60 community service hours
about 60 leadership hours
and a ton of other clubs
I have my own sole proprietorship business that has been pretty successful
my essays are usually great so I would assume that the admission essays I write should be good as well.
I already know the teachers who I’m going to ask for recommendations, they like me.

Your GPA is based on 4 or 5?
If it’s on 4, then you should be fine.
My GPA is 3.2 (our school doesn’t give extra credit for honor or AP), almost same test scores like yours, I got in EA for Electrical Engineering Plus James Scholar Honor Program.

The high test scores and multiple APs will help quite a bit. You don’t provide correct information on your GPA (and don’t provide rank) so it is hard to say how low your grades actually are and thus whether you have a real chance, You say that is your estimated GPA through first semester senior year even though you are a junior. Be aware that UIUC does not use senior year grades at all in determining admission so all that will count is where you are after junior year. Also be aware that UIUC neither wants nor reads letters of recommendation. Business is a full file review college, essays and ECs are important for it and you may have a favorable factor there.

When your HS doesn’t rank, the application is initially set to Complete - Pending Manual Review. That manual review consists of reviewing your application, the courses you’ve taken, and your GPA, compared to the HS profile sent by your HS Counselor, which lists, among other things, courses offered by the school etc. It’s rare that the admissions committee would have no history of having dealt with applications from your high school previously, so they’ll “know” how you stack up with the rigor of courses taken, and GPA from those courses.

Bottom line: If I were you, I wouldn’t sweat it.

My high school is also extremely competitive and according to my weighted GPA my class rank percentile is between 55% and 65%.

I have two questions. If I get deferred and get good grades senior year first semester, will UIUC calculate those grades into my GPA? And if I don’t make it into business, do I have a good chance of getting into LAS?

Also, in my high school the 25th percentile ACT score is 23. The 75th percentile is 30.
For SAT, the 25th percentile is 1820 and the 75th is 2210.

Btw I know this might sound dumb but on my school’s website the profile states “below is a list of GPA’s for the class of 2011 for the sixth semester”
Does that mean that the class rank rank percentile range is only for the 6th semester? Or for all the semesters before it aswell.

UIUC doesn’t accept letters of recommendation. It’s mainly about stats, and if your stats are borderline weak, they consider your essays and your ECs.

They won’t see them for regular decision, either. Will your transcripts contain your first semester grades before Christmas break? The deadline is Jan. 1st.

Class rank is more important than pure GPA. I doubt that you will get accepted to the business school if your rank is in the bottom half of the class.
